On Tuesday, November 25, it’s time for a new edition of our popular after-work series SpaceNight at Visualiseringscenter C. This time, we invite you on a fascinating journey in the search for life on Mars—a theme that captivates researchers, space enthusiasts, and curious visitors around the world.
The event is held in English.
An evening of food, mingling, and cosmic curiosity
The evening begins between 18:00 and 19:00 with a simple alcohol-free AW menu in our restaurant. For only 79 SEK, you can enjoy a wrap, a drink, and great company in a relaxed atmosphere.
At 19:00, we open the doors to WISDOME Norrköping, where the main attraction of the evening takes place: a spectacular visual journey through the universe, focusing on the ongoing search for life beneath the surface of Mars.
This month’s theme: Life on Mars? Let’s find it!
For nearly five decades, scientists have explored Mars’s surface in hopes of finding traces of life. But the extreme conditions—radiation, ultraviolet light, and chemicals that break down organic matter—suggest that the answer may lie deeper below.
Research on Earth shows that microbes can thrive several kilometers underground, completely without sunlight, by harnessing energy from natural radiation. Mars has the same conditions: subsurface ice, ancient rocks, and strong radiation.
Could life on Mars exist between 2 and 10 meters below the surface—just out of reach of previous missions? And what do the mysterious methane emissions detected by the Curiosity rover really mean?
This evening’s talk will guide you through the questions, the science, and the future missions, including Europe’s ExoMars expedition with its two-meter drill scheduled for launch in 2028.
Limited number of seats. Welcome!
