SpaceNight – An After Work Among the Stars

On Wednesday, September 24, our popular after work events continue at Visualiseringscenter C. You’re invited—together with friends—to a spectacular experience where we combine the perfect AW menu with a cosmic journey that takes you beyond the stars. Each SpaceNight offers a new journey and fresh knowledge!

🚀 PROGRAMME

– Between 5:30 PM and 7:00 PM, enjoy a delightful AW menu in our restaurant with food, drinks, and mingling. 159 SEK including a drink.

– At 7:00 PM, the doors to the Wisdome dome theater open, where we’ll take you and your friends on a journey through the universe.

🚀 THIS MONTH’S THEME

Discover how gravity can bend light and create cosmic illusions through gravitational lensing. Astronomer Nikki Arendse takes you to galaxies far beyond our own—where a rare supernova reveals the hidden secrets of the universe. A dome show filled with breathtaking visuals, groundbreaking research, and mysteries from the darkest corners of space.

Galaxies as cosmic magnifying glasses
Did you know that gravity can bend light? In the universe, the most massive galaxies act like natural magnifying glasses. This effect, called gravitational lensing, can create mind-blowing optical illusions: galaxies stretched into rings or multiple copies of themselves. More than that, cosmic lenses allow us to trace dark matter, peer deeper into the furthest regions of the universe, and even measure its expansion.

Lecturer: Nikki Arendse, researcher at Stockholm University

The event is held in English.

My name is Nikki Arendse and I’m an astronomer fascinated by a special type of cosmic lens: a gravitationally lensed supernova. With my team at Stockholm University, we managed to capture one of these rare stellar explosions warped by a massive galaxy. In this planetarium show, I will bring you into the wonderful world of gravitational lensing and take you along on our discovery journey. Using beautiful observations from the best telescopes on Earth and in space, I will highlight what we learned about this lensed supernova discovery.
