A World in Nano Size

In the dome show Chemistry of Life, we get to discover a world in nano size. We get to experience what it feels like to be shot out of an electron cannon, to travel into a leaf, and to journey inside the sparkling network of neurons in our brains. We can almost promise that you will look at your body in a new way after experiencing the groundbreaking visualizations that Chemistry of Life – An Invisible Inner World offers.

Questions and Answers

Watching a film in 3D means that the brain perceives a depth in the image that is not actually there. To experience the 3D effect, you need a pair of 3D glasses, which we lend to all visitors. Thanks to 3D, we can get the feeling that objects are floating in the air in front of us.

It works great to have the 3D glasses on top of your regular glasses.

The show is in Swedish, but we also have soundtracks in English and German for this show. You will get headphones from us on site.

The content of the show is aimed at an adult audience and children and young people from 10 years. Younger children are of course welcome and usually appreciate the show for its visual effects.

Of course. We have designated spaces for wheelchairs and walkers at the top of the dome theater.

About the production

The dome show is the third production within the Wisdome project and is produced by Norrköping Visualization Center C with support from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.

Behind the scenes with the production team!

What do you want to show with Chemistry of Life?

We want to make the biomolecular world more concrete and accessible. We focus on how we can understand what we associate with life – breathing, eating, and thinking – through the biochemical processes in the body’s cells and mitochondria – the body’s own energy producers. The dome format gives us a unique opportunity to experience shrinking to a few nanometers in size and to get a picture of how the molecular world inside our bodies works.

How was the production done?

We start with a research phase. Then we develop a synopsis which forms the basis for a script that we work on with input from subject matter experts, in this film from researchers at Visual Learning and Communication at Linköping University. We also collaborated with the Australian animator Drew Berry who has focused his entire career on creating dynamic visualizations of biomedical science. Visualizing the molecular world in a scientifically concrete way in dome format was both interesting and challenging. Chemistry of Life took almost three years to produce, which says a lot.

Why should I watch Chemistry of Life?

This type of scientifically accurate dynamic visualizations of data from molecular biology has never been produced for a dome before. Here, you can get an immersive experience of a world that is otherwise completely invisible to us, and you can understand how all life on Earth is interconnected.

“When we worked on Chemistry of Life, we had many ‘aha’ moments when we realized how amazing and different the world of molecules is. I hope we can share that feeling with the visitors!”
